As summer kicks in we sometimes see an increase in graffiti and tagging in our communities.  It is highly frustrating and can leave people feeling victimised and unsafe.  I have attached a flyer that gives some information on how to remove graffiti and a voucher for free and/or discounted paint at Resene to help paint out graffiti/tagging.  I thought you could put this (or the information contained in it) in your next residents association e-newsletter or let residents know that they can pick a flyer up from their local library.

Working together and getting everyone on board is the most effective way to get rid of graffiti in our communities.  Every little bit helps.

Graffiti and other crimes

Some studies have shown a strong relationship between graffiti and other crimes.

Discovered via this blog post by David Eaves.

As for the two vandals arrested in Tinakori Rd last Easter. Their case was heard 8 December 2010. Both were convicted. Apparently, one had committed even more serious crime and later in 2010 was incarcerated for two years. The other graffiti vandal got 40 hours community service.

In this location the effort is called street art and some of it may even attract awards. Exactly the same activity, right out of place in Thorndon, is considered blatant vandalism. See previous posting ...

Graffiti vandals attack wall again

This elevated wall above Thorndon Quay, clearly visible from many angles, was only recently repainted to remove previous defacements. Trespassers have again breached the wall and adjacent electric security fencing.

Graffiti report

The map indicates that clean-up of graffiti vandalism has progressed well this past month. Yellow map markers indicate the locations where the response has been completed. Blue markers indicate a response is needed. Purple markers indicate WCC has yet to allocate a job number.
