"With the recent review of Resident and Coupon Parking Areas the parking restrictions within Thorndon Village were questioned in relation to what constituted an ‘Authorised Vehicle’. After consultation with the Traffic Working Group (Thorndon Residents Association) this has been clarified in relation to the Thorndon Area. It is therefore an opportune time to reconfirm the parking restrictions within Thorndon Village. There are to be no changes to the resoluted parking spaces or current restrictions within Thorndon Village."

What constitutes Thorndon Village? We have a significant problem in Hobson Street: there are no carparks available for visitors to residents Monday through Friday. Instead coupon parking spaces in the street (and in other streets in Thorndon) fill up early resembling a commuter carpark from 9am-5pm weekdays. Why not allocate a portion of coupon spaces to 2 hour limits?
ReplyDeleteWell put hobsonresident; Wellington's commuter carpark indeed. The northern end of Hobson St did see some improvements during the past year. This improved the chance of finding a car park for visitors to Katherine Mansfield Memorial Park or to the playground. But Residents know this remains a problem the length of Hobson St. Residents remain peeved about WCC's decision some years ago to remove curbside carparks entirely ( 24x7x365-broken yellow lines ) near the Australian High Commission. Apparently embassies don't like their visitors (or anyone for that matter) parking in their vicinity. Here's a blatant case of residents and our visitors being rated 2nd-class for our uses within the residential zones of our own suburb.
